小説が写真の説明にならず、写真が小説の挿絵にも資料にもならない。それでも、読むことと見ることを行き来するなかで、小説と写真が〈いま〉として立ち上がる。本書は、日本の小説と写真を一冊の本の中で拮抗させてきたシリーズの第６作として、岡本かの子の小説『鮨』（1939 年 ）に、遠藤文香の写真を加え、編集・造本した“書物”です。小説『鮨』には、消えない気配があります。その気配は、岡本かの子の生へも通じているように感じられます。歌人として出発し、晩年に小説へと向かった岡本かの子の強度、そして家族や時代の圧を引き受けた一人の作家の輪郭が、この小説の背後で静かに息づいています。その気配を想起させたのが、新進気鋭の写真家・遠藤文香の写真でした。遠藤文香の写真は、境界を固定しません。自然と人為、触れることと介入すること、その境界を揺らしながら、気配を残していきます。岡本かの子の言葉が持つ消えない気配と、遠藤文香の写真が残す気配の余韻が、ただ並走しながら響き合い、ときには読んだはずの小説が違って見え、見たはずの写真の印象も変わっていきます。（publisher's description）初版500部 240p 21x15cm 98photo ソフトカバー・スリーブケース入り 2026 English

This book is the sixth title in bookshop M’s ongoing series in which Japanese literature and photography are brought into tension within a single book. In this series, the text does not explain the photographs, nor do the photographs become illustrations or documents for the text. Instead, through the movement between reading and looking, literature and photography begin to appear as something present—an event taking place within the book itself. Kanoko Okamoto’s Sushi carries a lingering presence. It seems to reach beyond the story and connect to Okamoto’s own life: her intensity as a writer who began as a tanka poet and later turned toward fiction, and the outline of a woman who lived while bearing the pressures of family and her time. It was the photographs of the emerging photographer Ayaka Endo that recalled this presence. Endo’s photographs do not fix boundaries. Between nature and artifice, touching and intervening, self and world, they allow those boundaries to tremble, leaving behind a quiet trace. The presence that remains in Okamoto’s words and the resonance left by Endo’s photographs do not explain one another. They simply run alongside each other, quietly echoing. At times, the story one has just read begins to appear differently, and the impression of the photographs one has just seen begins to shift. Ayaka Endo: Kanoko is not a book that offers a conclusion. Rather, it opens a space in which reading and looking may continue inside each reader.
